Nicole Smith for City Councillor, Ward 2
As the owner of Kumon Hamilton West End Math and Reading, I have taught hundreds of students and have met hundreds of Hamilton families. I moved here from Montreal in 2010 and love the way that people in Hamilton really care about each other. I live in Corktown and as I have met and spoken with many fellow Ward 2 citizens over the years, in the contexts of Occupy Hamilton, Ward 2 Participatory Budgeting, and many other community and one-on-one meetings, I have gradually come to a deeper understanding of the needs of the diverse residents and communities that make up Ward 2.
What I hear people saying is that we need a Ward 2 Councillor who is available, accountable, and present to all people in the ward. Someone willing to work together with all the stake-holders regardless of income, gender, race, religion, ability. I have met many people in Hamilton who have a clear vision for the city's future. I'm running for City Councillor because I want to help people make their visions a reality.
I have experience doing this. I founded the International Association of Kumon Franchisees of thousands of business owners all over the world. As President I have helped franchisees gain a voice with Kumon Head Office. I understand how to work with many to build a Hamilton that works for everyone.
